Superchunk, of Chapel Hill, N.C., was formed in 1989 by guitarist/singer Mac McCaughan and bassist Laura Ballance. The current line-up also includes Jim Wilbur on guitar and Jon Wurster on drums. As the Seattle scene thrived in the early '90's, Superchunk made its mark in the rock world on the otherside of the continent. The band refused major-label offerings in order to avoid the strain of corporate pressures. In addition to Superchunk's constant touring and recording schedule, the band has released records independently on Merge (Mac and Laura's label) and Matador Records.

This site is a multimedia documentary covering Superchunk over the past 12 years. This site features a video for "Slack Motherfucker", one of the band’s earliest hits off their self-titled album, and a video for "Art Class", off the new album, Here's To Shutting Up. The Superchunk story is told during a video interview with Mac and Jon.

In addition, this site contains audio tracks from a few select albums from the span of Superchunk’s existence in the following chronological order:"Water Wings", Foolish; "Hyper Enough", Here's Where The Strings Come In; "Her Royal Fisticuffs", The Laughter Guns; "June Showers", Come Pick Me Up.

In order to maintain high quality playback, this site requires Quicktime 5 (click link to download for free) or the lastest version of Quicktime and a high speed internet connection, such as cable, DSL, or T1. Also, if you do not use the Internet Explorer browser, now would be a good time to download it for free. If the videos appear dark you need to adjust the brightness and/or contrast on your monitor as most monitors are usually not adjusted correctly. Also, don't be scared to use outboard speakers when listening. Thanks a lot, enjoy.
